Sector 12/12 – Discography and Artwork

During the four and a bit years Sector 12/12 was up and running, we managed to get 27 releases out the door — with one final drop ready to go right before we called it a day. Looking back, I’m massively proud of everything we put out. Even the bits that are now over a decade old still sound fresh to my ears.

If you check our Discogs page, you’ll only spot our first three releases. That’s because they were the only ones that made it onto the big streaming platforms. It’s crazy to think about now, but back in early 2014, Spotify didn’t feel a priority compared to physical vinyl. Even with tiny press runs and modest sales, back then you just weren’t taken seriously if you were digital-only.

Fast forward to now, and it feels weird if a label isn’t on Spotify. Plenty of great specialist labels run purely on digital today and do amazingly well. Who knows? If we launched Sector 12/12 today with a big social media campaign, maybe things would turn out differently. But playing the self-promotion game was never really our thing, and it still isn’t.

If anything, I’m even more fed up with the non-stop sales pitches cluttering up social media these days. That’s a big part of why I’m making a lot of the music here completely free to download before the site shuts down on 13 December 2026.

And while I know I harp on about our lack of vinyl, we did drop a few tapes and a CD-R that completely sold out — though that was after we made the call to go Bandcamp-exclusive.

All that said, digging back through the positive feedback on those early tunes has been a real treat. It was brilliant to be reminded of the love we got from heads like Volcov, Midland, Afrikan Sciences, and Tony Nwachukwu (Attica Blues/CDR).

So, before we get to the music itself, here’s the original Sector 12/12 blurb and the complete discography:

About the label:

Sector 12/12 will launch in April 2014 releasing deep electronica, house, techno, downtempo and ambient music. Breakbeat tracks could take the form of Future Garage, Drum And Bass, Juke, 2 Step or (ideally) anywhere in between.

Each track released on Sector 12/12 will be thought provoking, profound or poignant. We are passionate about songs that take you on a journey and create emotion. Our aim is to curate a bank of timeless music.

Inspiration comes from labels like Reinforced, Good Looking, Planet E, Mo Wax and Delsin due to their desire to be different and their strong vision. They also delivered the full package of great sounding music alongside great looking artwork.
