Welcome to A Temporary Space, a six week celebration of the Two Hungry Ghosts blog and the Sector 12/12 record label – I say record label, we didn’t actually release any music on vinyl, although it was something we always wanted to do. Part of this little project is to address that, so I will share numerous ideas I had for both Sector 12/12 and Two Hungry Ghosts vinyl releases.
As you can probably already tell, this series of posts is going to be more informal compared to what I used to publish. The aim of this is to speed up my workflow, and to avoid obsessing over every little detail of the blog. Two Hungry Ghosts was always meant to be a fun side project, but it ended up being a bit of a stress towards the end.
I’ve been reflecting on Sector 12/12 a lot recently, partly due to putting this series of posts together, and partly because we never wanted the blog to be about one thing, let alone one style of music, so the label is a truer reflection of what we originally wanted to create.
Sure Sector 12/12 featured some drum and bass, but I consider the majority of those tracks as now being lost, to my knowledge at least they haven’t been released elsewhere since the label closed. So I will post a few of these over the next couple of weeks, but only from artists I’ve recently talked with. A few of the tracks will also be available to download for free. I will reveal more about that in the near future.
Like a lot of people I listen to a wide variety of musical styles, and the blog used to reflect that. But there came a point where we gained a steady audience – probably after posting a series of purely drum and bass posts – so we featured more and more drum and bass until that’s all Two Hungry Ghosts contained.
A Temporary Space aims to get back to the early days of the blog, by focusing on a variety of musical styles. The first batch of posts will be taken from Sector 12/12 and will cover off-kilter house and twisted techno.
The second batch of posts will be drum and bass focused, and will include three new volumes of Totems, a series of untitled mystery streams, an EP of unreleased music from Sonar’s Ghost and an LP from RQ.
Another thing I want to focus on for this project is the people that contributed to the blog and label. We couldn’t have done it without them, and ultimately I still want their music to be heard, and their contribution to be recognised.
I realised that by taking down the Sector 12/12 and Two Hungry Ghosts Bandcamps a lot of this music hasn’t been heard since. So if you haven’t heard these tracks before, sit back and enjoy, and if you have, I hope you have fun rediscovering them.
We don’t ask anything in return, other than to give the music a listen. Although the BPM’s may be a lot lower than what you expect from the blog, I can assure you that the quality of the music is just as high, and the tracks still explore the more cosmic side of electronic music.
In fact, thats partly how this project got its name. I’ve always been fascinated with “futuristic space music”, and as the blog only only has another 6 weeks left to run, A Temporary Space seemed the perfect title for this series of posts.
A Temporary Space will be live from 1 November until 13 December 2026. Our Soundcloud will be devoted to the project, and we will shortly open a Bandcamp store where a selection of the music will be available to download for free.
